Speech Evaluation Task #2

*57 word title*

Hello, everyone. Today is a great day as I watched one of the most interesting speeches in my life! I’ve just watched three best speeches from the “Toastmasters contest 2016”. I’ve chosen the 57-word title speech made by Aaron Beverly for some reasons. The first reason is the emotional coloring. I laughed a lot, but I also caught myself crying one moment. The second one is the main message. It’s so strong, meaningful and useful. No one who’s heard it will soon forget. And the third one (my favorite) is the introduction. I believe that introduction is the most important thing in public speech. I know that public speech doesn’t consist of introduction only, but imagine that the introduction is bad. Speaker will lose the audience’s attention from the very beginning. Aaron Beverly made the best introduction that I’ve ever heard.

Public Speaking Evaluation Chart

I.                Speech Content (45 points)

The organization of the speech was exciting. Did you see how Mr. Beverly proved his thesis before he named this very thesis? The introductory part was unusual. Yes, it was funny, it forced me to laugh aloud, but the idea didn’t lose its importance. It wasn’t hard to understand Aaron’s idea. He explained thesis using simple and emotional examples.

II.             Speech Delivery (40 points)

I think that vocal presentation was what it should be there. His volume, tempo and intonations were changing during the whole speech. He made pauses for his listeners to let them think and agree with him. His articulation was clear. Also, there were some important moments and speaker emphasis these moments. His pauses and stresses are so appropriate that they can really trigger the way of thinking. What is more, Mr. Beverly was smiling a lot, he was almost shining. I’m sure that audience was looking at him during his presentation without blinking. Well, his physical presentation was nice too. He didn’t use a huge amount of gestures. He was calm and friendly.

III.           General Effectiveness (15 points)

It seems that the speech was the perfect size. You didn’t become tired, and it was complete enough to be explained. I still can’t believe that person can be that good with public speaking. It’s obvious that he’s professional speaker, but I can’t believe. Or I’m just afraid to believe. He said that he was shy and quite person during his early journey. I was shy too. Honestly. I’m afraid of stages! Aaron makes me believe that I can do better.

I will give this video 100 points! Now I will be more careful with the words I use. It’s the quality and not the quantity of our words that matter.
