Heuristic Methods and Creative Writing

Warm ups

One letter exercise:
Letter D

Dog, door, district, Disneyland, document, dolphin, doll, dollar, donat, dress, duck, Doshirak, deer, diary,
demon, diver, driver, dessert, desert.

Random words:

I went to the website https://www.textfixer.com/tools/random-words.php, generated 5 random words, picked a few random words and tried to tie them together in the most imaginative way possible.

filter, ballerina, coconut, broken, hangover

It was a hangover of one of the most handsome guy in the world, Johnny Depp. It wass a masquerade party and there were a lot of people in cool costumes. There was a man in coconut costume. He was dancing with ballerina. Ballerina loved him so much. But then she saw him dancing with another girl in banana costume. They were posting photoes in Instagram using the filter with hearts. The ballerina's heart was broken

Creative writing prompts

1. What if...

I imagined a problematic situation and think of possible solutions.

What if there were no desks in the classrooms, but only beanbags?
  • pupils would sleep during lessons, because beanbags are so comfortable
  • in the classroom there would be a cosy atmosphere
  • it would be a cinema screens instead of desks
  • pupils would use laptops instead of notebooks
  • it would be hard for teachers to attract pupil's attention during the lesson
  • instead of calling the register teacher would check whether pupils online in the VK (VKontakte) or not
  • pupils would use special programme which shows their notes on the blackboard

2. Six Thinking Hats

I formulated ideas for my speech, created a topic sentence and challenged my brain to think in six different directions.

"How many foreign languages should be taught to students in schools?"

I think that it would be great idea to study several lenguages in schools.

White thinking hat.
Pupils would have greater opportunity to visit different countries and speak with natives without barrier.

Red thinking hat.
Pupils would be proud of themselves, because their knowledge is big.

Black thinking hat.
It is more difficult to concentrate on several subjects.

Yellow thinking hat.
More knowledge is better.

Green thinking hat.
You would know how to say "snake" in different languages.

Blue thinking hat.
It would be possible to you to speak with the whole world

Griffindor hat.
Harry Potter speaks English and Parseltounge.

Comments

  1. The creative writing exercises look very interesting and like they would be good practice, I'll have to try those sometime. I think you misused hangover in the random word exercise but other than that you came up with a fairly interesting story out of 5 random words.

  2. Thank you, Dasha. You certainly did well today.
    A short feedback:
    1) I love the story you made up with the random words. Johnny Depp – one love.
    2) It was a good call to modify the topic sentence for the speech on languages, so that it would be easier for you to argue.
    3) You got all the hats right, I like your ideas.
    4) Special thank you for the Harry Potter argument :)
